Legislative Alert: Call Today!

Perhaps as early as today, Monday December 28 members of Congress will be called upon to vote on two crucial items: the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, (NDAA) totaling $740.5 billion and on a different front, a stand-alone bill, which would immediately increase the relief checks for needy Americans up to $2000.

A handful of votes can make the difference. Please call your Representatives and Senators today and ask them to:

Vote Against the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and Vote in Favor of stand-alone legislation, giving an additional $1400 relief check to Americans in need. (bringing the total up to $2000)

To reach them, use Capitol Switchboard: 202-224-3121

Explanation: Congress has recently passed a $740.5 billion National Defense Authorization Act. Because the President has vetoed this bill, a 2/3 vote in both Houses is needed to override and will happen quickly. Regardless of the President’s veto, this bill should never have passed. At a time, when millions of Americans and people around the world are in desperate need of food, shelter, medical care and other assistance, this $740.5 billion is at best a colossal waste of money and at worst support for more lethal weaponry and expanded military interventions. Be sure to call your Senators as well as your Representative and tell them you oppose this bill.

Last night, President Trump signed the omnibus government spending bill, along with the pandemic relief package. He was right about one thing: the granting of a “measly” $600 assistance to Americans in need is “a disgrace.” On Monday House Democrats are planning to introduce a stand-alone bill, which would bring that sum up to $2000. It is important that Representatives and Senators hear from their constituents, that this increase matters and people are paying attention to how they vote.
