Join the Israel-Palestine Working Group

HPAD members & supporters,

As Israel’s war against Gaza and its people enters its fifth week, we would like to update you on what we have been doing to build support for peace. We invite you to join us.

Eleven members of Historians for Peace and Democracy (H-PAD) are now working in our reactivated Israel-Palestine Working Group (IPWG). We have decided to concentrate on writing letters and opinion pieces to local and national newspapers, our elected representatives, and, in one case, a leading newspaper in Colombia. So far we have had one letter by Deborah Cohen published in the St. Louis Post Dispatch Letter: US Rep. Cori Bush’s ‘no’ vote on Israel shows concern for all victims,  and one by Margaret Power in the Chicago Tribune, linked here (please note, my letter should read “According to multiple sources”, not “According to Hamas”. The paper changed it without informing me). Lewis Siegelbaum also developed a template letter to use to write to our elected officials, which a number of us have adapted to our local conditions and sent off. That template can be found here

As the fighting continues, as the number of dead, wounded, and maimed escalates daily, we ask you to get involved and to stop the war. Our main demands are for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid to Gaza. We all have something to contribute and the more of us working together, the more we can achieve.

For more information or ways to get involved, please contact Margaret Power, marmacpower1@gmail.com

Best wishes,
Margaret Power and Van Gosse, H-PAD Co-Chairs
